Famitsu: Game Sales in Japan in June 2024 and the H1'2024
Nintendo Switch games are getting close to 80% of the market share in the country.
Famitsu only considers retail sales of PC and console games.
June 2024 Results
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD debuted at the top, selling 88.4 thousand copies in 3 days after release.
In second place is Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (77.5 thousand copies); in third place is Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance (66.6 thousand copies on Switch and PS5).
Elden Ring returned to the charts with the Shadow of the Erdtree Edition. The game took the 6th place, selling over 31 thousand copies.
Nintendo earned $17 million from physical game versions in June; Atlus is in second place with 11.1% of the total volume; FromSoftware took third place (7% of the market).
Switch games accounted for 77.4% of all sales in June (868.9 thousand copies); PS5 had 15.4% (173.1 thousand).
Nintendo Switch once again took the top spot in the Japanese chart with 225.3 thousand systems sold. PS5 is in second place (117.5 thousand).
First Half of 2024 Results
In the first half of 2024, Nintendo Switch sold 1.3 million units in Japan. This is 31% less than the same period last year (1.9 million systems).
During the same period, PS5 was bought just over 791 thousand times. This is 43% less than the first half of 2023 (1.4 million systems).

From boxed game sales in Japan, Nintendo earned over $100 million (31.7% of the total volume); Square Enix is in second place - $29.5 million; Atlus is in third ($23.2 million).
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the best-selling game of the first half of the year in Japan with 339.1 thousand copies. In second place is Super Mario Bros. Wonder (328 thousand copies), in third place is Momotaro Dentetsu World: The Earth Spins with Hope (280 thousand copies).
