Omdia: Subscription Services don't impact the way games are designed
Some games have a slow start, and developers do not intend to do something with it.
One of Omdia's studies found that 40% of players try a new game through a subscription for less than 30 minutes. They move on to the next one if the game doesn't captivate them. There's a belief that games adapted for subscription models must be immediately engaging.
However, only 13% of developers noted that subscription services have influenced their game design decisions. 80% said they haven't made any changes to their games due to subscriptions.
35% of developers believe their games will be included in subscription services.
❗️Considering the increasing number of projects in the market, this figure seems overly optimistic.
As of 2024, Omdia estimates the size of the subscription market at $19.4 billion, which is 8.8% of the entire global gaming market.
