Three IP-based games were in the top-10 of the US market in 2020. It’s Pokemon GO, PUBG Mobile, and Call of Duty: Mobile.
IP-based games and non-IP games had the same revenue growth in 2020 - +33,8%.
But in terms of downloads, IP-based games were in a much better position and showed growth of 31,1% YoY (thanks to Call of Duty: Mobile) while non-IP games fell down by 3,9%.
IP-based games were accounting for 23% of revenue and 17% of downloads in the US market in 2020.
9% of mobile games are based on different IPs.
1/3 of all IP-based games are drawn on video games IP.
The highest increase in revenue in 2020 showed manga-based games - by 54%.
Geolocation AR games genre is fully dominated by IP-based title. It’s accountable for 99,9% of the revenue. And, yeah, it’s Pokemon GO.
The action genre has a strong presence of IP-based games too. 64,4% of the revenue belongs to them.
The RPG genre ranks top 1 for IP-based games with 2020 revenue of more than $1,1 billion. A large share of the pie took Marvel Strike Force.
