Newzoo: Saudi Arabia's Mobile Gaming market 2021 report
The Saudi Arabian gaming market is valued at $946 million. The mobile segment is responsible for 55% of it ($520 million).
Puzzles are the most popular genre in the country, almost a third of players have played it during the last 6 months. Shooters, Strategies, and Battle Royales are coming next.
About 60% of users are making in-game purchases.
There are 42% female gamers in the country. The majority of players (45%) - in the age from 21 to 35.
IGDA: 43% of Game Developers experienced better work-life balance during the pandemic
Unfortunately, almost the same amount of respondents, 37%, reported the opposite. They started to work more and spend less time with friends, family, and themselves.
41% of indie developers reported that pandemics helped them with finding a job.
35% of AAA developers told IGDA, that the pandemic effect on their opportunity of finding a job was bad.
Sensor Tower: Top Mobile Games in Japan by Revenue and Downloads in Q2 2021
Uma Museum Pretty Derby (Cygames) became the most profitable game of Q2 2021 with $361M of revenue. The increase from Q1 2021 is 129.6%.
Players downloaded the game 3M times - it’s 12.5% more than the quarter before.
In second place by revenue is Monster Strike (Mixi) with $197M.
In general, Japanese users have spent $4.6B on mobile games in Q2 2021. It’s 7.3% growth YoY, but still less than in Q1 2021. $5.1 was spent in the first three months of the year.
On May 1st Japanese users have spent a record amount of money during the quarter - $137.7M. The only day with higher revenue was 1 January, when people spent $218.6M on different in-game purchases.
23 out of 50 top Steam titles are made with Unity
KiriKiri engine is in second place (5 projects), while Unreal is only third with 3 games from top-50 in the portfolio.
The Reddit user has used its own methodology. He chose top-50 by a number of reviews and percentage of positive among them. Also, he excluded F2P titles from the list.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Desperados III, Phasmophobia, Spiritfarer, and other titles from the list were made with Unity.
GameRefinery: Mobile Market snapshot in Q2 2021
The strategy genre showed the highest growth in the US in Q2 2021 - +1.73%. On contrary, the Puzzle genre experienced a -1.53% decline. In Japan, the Sports genre attracted +3.41% in revenue (Olympics might be the reason), while the RPG genre dropped by 4.96%. Finally, the Chinese audience preferred RPG (+2.02%) and Strategy (+1.79%) games to Shooters (-2.73%) in the second quarter.
Tencent is the market behemoth in China with 39.45% of all market revenue. Cygames is responsible for 9.25% of Japanese gaming market revenue. The most competitive market is in the US - the leader (Roblox) is responsible for 5.04% of overall revenue. Supercell with 4.35% and King with 4.15% are somewhere nearby.
Non-recurring live events popularity in games increased by 143% from Q1 2020. The strategy genre developed loved this feature the most - the feature showed 329% growth in implementation.

Dr. Mario World is the most unsuccessful game from Nintendo on mobile devices
The game earned only $13.9M in 2 years. It has been downloaded 13M times, 5M of which came the first week after the launch.
The most successful Nintendo mobile game now is Fire Emblem Heroes with $891.5M of revenue.
It’s interesting that even Premium mobile Super Mario Run earned more than Dr. Mario World - $84M.
For now, Nintendo received $1.6B of revenue from the mobile market.
Sensor Tower: Mobile titles generated more than $100M for Riot Games
Teamfight Tactics earned $27.5M and received 15M downloads. Runeterra has 13M of downloads and $16.2M in revenue. The main Riot Games title - League of Legends: Wild Rift - has 46.3M downloads and $64.7M of revenue since launch.
In Q2 2021 all company games earned $36.5M - it’s 50% more than the quarter before.
The US is the main market for Riot Games in terms of revenue (26% - $28M). South Korea is second (22%), Brazil is in third place (6.5%).
As for the platforms, Google Play is responsible for 59.4% of earnings ($63.4M). App Store has, respectively, $44M and 40.6% of share.
Brazil is leading by downloads with 7.4M installs (10% of the overall amount). South Korea (9.6% of downloads) is next, while the US is third with 8.3% of downloads.
Google Play brought Riot Games 65% of all downloads - 48.3M. App Store - 26M of downloads (35%).
